Weapons, traps, forecourt & arsenal
Retail horror turns tactical once polite service fails. Buy traps through the checkout computer when a Hunt warning hits, stock the Weapons Arsenal across shifts, and remember: ground traps punish walkers — floating threats like the Marionette need guns.
Chainsaw — September 1 (LOCKED AND LOADED)
The September 1, 2026 patch (Build 25057748) added the Chainsaw as a purchasable melee weapon in the arsenal. It is now required for the LOCKED AND LOADED achievement — the achievement tracks all weapons including the Chainsaw, not just firearms.
Purchase it through the in-store computer during regular hours or at the Emergency Arsenal when a Hunt begins. The Chainsaw deals high melee damage at close range and is particularly effective against ground-based threats during Hunt phases.
Same patch added 30 new customers to Story and Endless modes, Security Cameras (Endless Mode), the Patience metre (Story Mode), purchasable pets in Endless Mode, two additional Bear Traps and two planks for the first shift.
Execute on site — and clean up
When evidence stacks up, kill a customer before they leave. That is safer than waving through a doppelganger who returns as a monster later the same shift. The catch: blood and remains alarm normal shoppers.
Important: charging a doppelganger for their purchase and shooting them afterward still counts as a failure — the game triggers an end-of-shift attack. Execute before checkout completes, or deny service and keep investigating.
Housekeeping still matters for shop rating and odd-job cash toward pet surgery — see pets and endings.
Trap roster: Bear, Stun Mine, Flame
Launch builds sell three core traps as supplies. Costs scale with power — overspending early starves harder nights. The September 1 patch also added two additional Bear Traps and two planks for the first shift, giving you more early setup options in Story Mode.
| Trap | Role | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Bear Trap | Cheapest single-target catch | Early Hunts, Hunters/Brutes pathing, Demented for Freed |
| Stun Mine | AoE stun in a radius | Corridors and corners where packs bunch (priority ~night 8+) |
| Flame Trap | High damage, expensive | Situational finisher vs tankier late threats — not a default spam buy |
Default doctrine: Bear Traps first, Stun Mines when chase routes clog, Flame Traps sparingly. Announce placements on proximity chat so teammates do not face-plant into their own gear.
Barricades, arsenal & the 60-second window
When a creature escapes, crews get roughly sixty seconds to board doors, lay traps, and grab weapons before monsters flood the store. The Weapons Arsenal unlocks deeper firepower as Hunt pressure rises; the Emergency Weapons Arsenal in storage hands out pre-purchased guns when things escalate.
Melee collectibles for Locked And Loaded: Brick, Baseball Bat, Sledgehammer, Chainsaw (September 1). Ranged: SMG, Shotgun, Flamethrower (pistol default). Details on the achievements page.
July 29 — second gun during store hours
The July 29, 2026 balancing patch lets you purchase a second gun for regular store hours, not only Hunt phases. Use it for confirmed doppelganger executions without sprinting to the Emergency Arsenal every time — still clean up afterward.
Same patch adds forest Rakes in Endless / post-story: shoot them before they reach the playable area. See changelog and Story & Endless.
Outdoor forecourt: fuel & vehicles
Crews pump gas, search vehicles, and judge drivers who may be doppelgangers. Never send everyone outside while the register sits empty unless quotas allow it. Vehicle searches mirror indoor ID logic — mismatched paperwork and odd trunk contents still apply.
Floating threats vs ground traps
The Marionette ignores ground traps. Fail or rewind the Jack-in-the-Box on purpose with a plan — full walkthrough on Marionette & music box. Demented and most aisle runners still respect Bear Traps.
