Shift At Midnight Wiki

Weapons, traps, forecourt work & the forest edge

Retail horror turns tactical once polite service fails. Shift At Midnight gives crews execution tools, trap placements, barricades, and — in builds after the demo — outdoor fuel duties plus forest-adjacent spaces teased in Triple-i trailers.

Execute on site — and clean up

When evidence stacks up, you can kill a customer before they leave. That is safer than waving through a doppelganger who returns as a monster later the same shift. The catch: blood and remains alarm normal shoppers.

Housekeeping is not optional. Assign someone to mop and bag evidence while others keep the register moving. Pets — see our pets guide — reduce but do not eliminate that workload after unlock.

Traps, barricades & hiding

If a creature escapes, the night flips to survival horror. Board doors, place traps along choke points, and use vents or back-room hiding spots. Noise discipline matters: proximity chat can literally get you killed when monsters listen for movement.

Endless Mode updates promise additional trap types exclusive to marathon nights. Launch loadouts still include demo-familiar basics — review our survival guide for role splits during breaches.

Outdoor forecourt: fuel & vehicles

Demo patches removed the “indoor only” limitation. Crews now pump gas, search vehicles, and judge drivers who may be doppelgangers in disguise. Forecourt work splits attention — never send everyone outside while the register unattended unless quotas allow it.

Vehicle searches mirror indoor ID logic: mismatched paperwork, odd trunk contents, and behavioural tells still apply. Co-op teams should call out plate numbers and glove-box findings over voice comms.

Forest areas & expanded arsenal

Release marketing showcases forest edges, new monster silhouettes, decorative store upgrades, and weapons beyond demo loadouts. Post-launch patches will add even more enemy and weapon combinations to Story and Endless modes.

Until launch, treat weapon stats as subject to balance passes. Speedrunners should snapshot patch versions alongside loadout notes.

Frequently asked questions

Can you non-lethally detain customers? Reveal answer.

Marketing emphasizes on-site execution when you are confident. Alternative detain mechanics have not been confirmed — plan around lethal tools plus cleanup.

Do traps affect teammates? Reveal answer.

Friendly fire rules have not been fully documented. Assume traps hurt monsters first but test carefully in private lobbies at launch.

Is forecourt content in the Steam demo? Reveal answer.

Yes — outdoor fuel and vehicle search arrived in pre-release demo updates. Full release adds broader map chunks including forest-adjacent spaces.
