Chainsaw — melee weapon and LOCKED AND LOADED

The Chainsaw is a high-damage melee weapon added in the September 1, 2026 patch. Unlike firearms which require ammunition purchases, the Chainsaw is a one-time purchase that deals massive close-range damage to ground-based threats during Hunt phases.

It is required for the LOCKED AND LOADED achievement. The achievement tracks every weapon type: firearms (SMG, Shotgun, Flamethrower), melee collectibles (Brick, Baseball Bat, Sledgehammer, Chainsaw), and traps (Bear Trap, Stun Mine, Flame Trap).

Buy the Chainsaw through one of two methods:

• In-store computer — during regular store hours, open the checkout computer and navigate to the Weapons Arsenal section. The Chainsaw appears as a purchase option alongside other melee weapons.
• Emergency Arsenal — when a Hunt begins and warning fires, the Emergency Arsenal in storage hands out pre-purchased weapons. If you have already bought the Chainsaw, it becomes available here.

The Chainsaw costs in-game currency from your personal funds or store budget depending on timing.

The Chainsaw excels in these situations:

• Close-range Hunt defense — when Entity or Demented breach your barricades and close the distance, the Chainsaw deals enough damage to drop them fast.
• Second firearm alternative — the July 29 patch added a second firearm for regular store hours, but the Chainsaw offers melee versatility without ammunition concerns.
• Early Hunt setup — pair with Bear Traps: let a creature step in the trap, then finish with the Chainsaw while it is immobilized.

The Chainsaw is less effective against floating threats like the Marionette, which ignores ground-based attacks. Save firearms for aerial targets.

The Chainsaw is the only melee weapon that requires a purchase — Brick, Baseball Bat, and Sledgehammer are found as collectibles during shifts. Factor this into your early-budget decisions.

The LOCKED AND LOADED achievement requires owning every weapon in the game. The Chainsaw was added in the September 1 patch and is now a required unlock:

• Firearms — pistol (default), SMG, Shotgun, Flamethrower
• Melee collectibles — Brick, Baseball Bat, Sledgehammer, Chainsaw
• Traps — Bear Trap, Stun Mine, Flame Trap

Tips for unlocking:

• Purchase the Chainsaw early — it appears in the Weapons Arsenal from Shift 1 after the September 1 patch.
• Explore every map area during shifts to find Brick, Baseball Bat, and Sledgehammer.
• Buy traps across multiple shifts — they cost personal or store funds.
• The second gun from the July 29 patch counts toward the total once purchased.

The Chainsaw arrived alongside the largest content drop since launch:

• 30 new customers — both Story Mode and Endless Mode rosters expanded significantly
• Security Cameras — Endless Mode monitoring system via in-store computer
• Patience Metre — Story Mode customer wait-timer mechanic
• Purchasable pets in Endless Mode — pets now available directly in marathon runs
• Two additional Bear Traps and two planks — first shift now has more early Hunt setup options
