Shift At Midnight Wiki

Shift At Midnight update timeline (demo → live patches)

Bun Muen ships fast — this page tracks player-visible beats from the Next Fest demo through the July 22, 2026 launch, July 23 and July 29 patches, the August 21 fifteen-customer drop, and the September 1, 2026 thirty-customer patch. Trust Steam announcements first when numbers disagree.

Demo era: Next Fest & multiplayer sampler

September 2025 brought the standalone Steam multiplayer demo (three scripted shifts, limited weapons). February 2026's Next Fest build added outdoor fuel duties, vehicle searches, and nine-language UI support.

Festival weeks also delivered QoL fixes — audio ducking, customer pathing, kiosk scaling — often mid-event rather than on monthly cadences.

Pre-launch additions (2026)

  • Pets — Adoption arc with cat, husky, puppy, or goose; vet bills across first three shifts.
  • Save files — Surviving a shift no longer wipes progress; story nights can span multiple sessions.
  • Widescreen & ultrawide — FOV options for large monitors.
  • Forest & expanded arsenal — Teased in Triple-i and July trailers with new monsters and decorations.
  • Schedule shifts — May 28 → June 17 → July 22, 2026 final date with Xbox Game Pass confirmation.

Launch day (July 22, 2026)

Full release includes Story Mode (13 random shifts), Endless unlock, online co-op for 1–3 players, proximity chat, character customization, pets, forecourt gameplay, and Steam server browsing at or shortly after launch.

Expect day-one stabilization — crash fixes, co-op desync tuning, shader stutter patches. Skim Steam banners before speedrun attempts.

July 10, 2026 — official release date & roadmap

Kwalee and Bun Muen posted the final July 22, 2026 date with a launch roadmap: Story (13 nights, multiple endings), Endless beta unlock, Xbox/Game Pass crossplay within Microsoft's ecosystem, Steam-only matchmaking for PC Steam, server browser at or shortly after launch, major patch weeks later, and Q4 Endless expansion.

The GameTrailers announcement trailer (YouTube) re-ran co-op interrogating beats for wishlist pushes.

Launch eve — July 21, 2026

With unlock set for Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Steam and Microsoft storefront countdown timers are live. Bun Muen's July 10 roadmap remains the latest feature summary — no new mechanics surfaced after that post.

Crews prepping day-one sessions should pre-download builds where available, confirm platform matchmaking pools (Steam vs Xbox/Game Pass), and rehearse the five-question plus emotion-detector loop from our beginner, detector, and day-one checklist guides.

July 21, 2026 — Xbox Game Pass Wave 2 confirmation

Microsoft's Xbox Wire post listed Shift At Midnight in Game Pass Wave 2 for July 22 day-one alongside Halo: Campaign Evolved and Beast of Reincarnation. Available on Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

This confirms console, Xbox on PC, and Cloud subscribers can install without a separate purchase — crossplay stays within the Xbox ecosystem per Bun Muen's July 10 roadmap.

Launch day live — July 22, 2026

Shift At Midnight unlocked at 3:00 PM UTC on Steam (app 3722330) and Xbox Series X|S / Game Pass. Story Mode (13 procedural shifts), Endless unlock (beta), pets, forecourt work, proximity chat, and character customization shipped in the launch build.

Expect hotfix cadence in the first 48 hours — co-op desync, crash reports, and shader stutter are common day-one targets. Steam server browsing may roll out at or shortly after unlock. See our day-one checklist for matchmaking pools and first-shift habits.

Launch week — July 23, 2026 (day after release)

Steam purchaser reviews crossed Very Positive within the first 24 hours (~90% of 700+ reviews by late July 23). By August 21, 2026 English reviews sit around 94% positive of 3,800+ (Very Positive). The storefront ran a 10% introductory discount through July 29 ($8.99 USD from $9.99; now ended), plus bundle savings with YAPYAP, Escape the Backrooms, Phasmophobia, and later Happy's Humble Burger Cult.

Launch build includes 10 Steam achievements, revised PC specs (~3 GB install, 8 GB RAM minimum), and Endless Mode (beta) after Story completion. Press coverage from TheXboxHub, GameRant, and DayOne highlights Game Pass day-one access, proximity-chat co-op, and a ~10-hour Story campaign. See launch week and 2026 roadmap for crew habits and post-launch plans.

July 23, 2026 — day-one patch (6-player lobbies & fixes)

Bun Muen shipped a quick day-one patch addressing community feedback:

  • Six-player lobbies — hosts can now select up to six players when creating a lobby. The game remains designed for three; larger parties are not recommended for first playthroughs.
  • Russia lobby fix — players who could not create joinable lobbies in Russia should reconnect after updating.
  • Marionette HP lowered — survival phase balance tuning.
  • Jack-in-the-box louder — audio cue clarity during trap phases.
  • Profanity filter removed — proximity chat moderation changed.
  • Misc bug fixes — next minor patch targets crash-then-cursor-lock issues.

See our networking guide for the separate network-issues-patch beta branch if lobbies fail to join.

July 29, 2026 — Steam launch discount ends

Steam's 10% introductory offer runs through July 29, 2026 — after that the base price returns to $9.99 USD unless a new sale appears. Game Pass subscribers are unaffected; they play via subscription on Xbox paths.

Publisher bundles (YAPYAP, Escape the Backrooms, Phasmophobia) may retain separate discounts — check each bundle card on the store before checkout.

July 29, 2026 — balancing, bug fixes & a bit of content

Bun Muen's Steam post BALANCING, BUG FIXES AND A BITTA CONTENT shipped the same day the launch discount ended:

  • Second store-hour gun — purchase an extra firearm usable during regular retail phases, not only Hunt panic.
  • Rakes in Endless / post-story — monsters slowly emerge from the forest; shoot them before they reach the playable area or "bad stuff" happens.
  • Patience removed in Endless / post-story — Hunt pressure rules change for marathon mode; do not assume Story patience habits still apply.
  • Crash & bug fixes — assorted stability work; report new issues on Discord.
  • Next content tease — more customers coming soon, ahead of the larger free content update.

Pair with weapons & traps, Story & Endless, and 2026 roadmap.

August 20, 2026 — 15 customers + Steam Cloud saves + True Ending RNG fix

Bun Muen's Steam post 15 CUSTOMERS + BUG FIXES (storefront timing August 20–21 depending on region) is the first sizeable free content drop after July 29:

  • Fifteen new customers in both Story Mode and Endless Mode — community catalogues (TheGamer and Discord) were still identifying names the next morning. Field notes: customers & NPCs.
  • Steam Cloud saves — enable before a True Ending money run or a Shift 12 backup. Folder path and Deck transfer: saves guide.
  • Per-player volume sliders — useful with proximity chat.
  • Equalized product prices — True Ending's $250 is less of a shop-RNG lottery.
  • Start-of-shift notes re-randomized; UI/world fixes in non-English languages; assorted crash fixes. Monster health and barricade-stuck enemies were among community-noted combat tweaks.

Bun Muen closed the post by saying the next content update will be bigger and probably sooner. That September 1 delivery confirmed it — see below. More on the roadmap.

August 28, 2026 — Dead by Daylight bundle announced

The official announcement introduced a Shift At Midnight + Dead by Daylight bundle. Owners of either game can complete the bundle with a 10% bundle discount, which stacks with other current discount offers. No end date was announced at time of publication.

This is a promotional bundle, not a game patch — the August 20 customer drop and September 1 content patch remain the primary game updates.

September 1, 2026 — 30 new customers, Chainsaw, Security Cameras, Patience metre + more (Build 25057748)

Bun Muen's Steam post 30 NEW CUSTOMERS + MORE (Build 25057748) delivered the largest content drop since launch, published September 1, 2026:

  • Thirty new customers added to both Story Mode and Endless Mode — the single largest customer expansion to date, more than doubling the August 21 roster. EncampedWeevil's September 3, 2026 review on all.gg confirmed the 30-customer addition alongside new tools and a new weapon.
  • Chainsaw — purchasable melee weapon added to the arsenal, required for the LOCKED AND LOADED achievement. Purchase through the in-store computer or Emergency Arsenal.
  • Security Cameras (Endless Mode) — new monitoring system for the store, allowing players to watch forecourt, fuel pumps, entrance, and key interior zones remotely. Accessible via the in-store computer. Full guide: Security Cameras.
  • Patience metre (Story Mode) — new mechanic affecting customer behaviour during regular hours. Customers have individual patience windows; low patience causes them to leave or become agitated. Full guide: Patience metre.
  • Purchasable pet in Endless Mode — pets can now be obtained directly in Endless Mode runs, not just Story Mode.
  • Two additional Bear Traps and two planks available from the first shift in Story Mode — more early Hunt setup options.
  • Various other minor bug fixes and crash fixes.
  • Further balance adjustments to monster health and combat pacing.

The customer roster has expanded substantially beyond the launch-day baseline. Use the customers & NPCs guide for updated tells, and check the doppelganger detection page for revised interrogation workflows as the larger roster increases shift complexity.

Bun Muen noted that this update lays groundwork for the larger Q4 Endless expansion — additional weapons, traps, and monsters are still planned for that release window.

Still ahead — larger content patch & Q4 Endless

September 1 delivered the second major customer wave (30 faces). The larger Q4 Endless expansion (exclusive customers, weapons, traps, monsters, and additional detection tools) remains on the official plan with more customers, enemies, and the Steam public server browser still expected in that window.
