Shift At Midnight 攻略Wiki

Customers, NPCs & the named doppelganger roster

A name on the receipt is not a verdict. The same face can walk in human on Night 1 and return as a doppelganger later — or the reverse. Treat this page as a field notebook for signature tells, VIP NPCs, the 15 new customers added on August 21, 2026, and the 30 new customers added on September 1, 2026 — then run the live ID loop from our doppelganger detection guide every visit.

Names do not stay human forever

Story Mode is procedural. Community night-by-night lists (TheGamer, Discord, Steam discussions) describe one common seed, not a locked script. Two rules hold across seeds:

  • Execute before checkout. Charging a doppelganger then shooting them still counts as a miss — they return as a Hunt threat the same night.
  • Re-check every visit. Clyde Dawson, Andal Khan, Natasha Lin, Martha Collins, and many Drivers flip between human and doppelganger across nights. Memory of last shift is a trap.

You still only get five scripted questions per visitor. Spend them on contradictions, not small talk, once the computer or Anomaly Lens already looks wrong.

September 1, 2026 — 30 new customers (largest single drop)

Bun Muen's Steam post 30 NEW CUSTOMERS + MORE (Build 25057748) is the single largest content drop since launch — more than doubling the August 21 roster in one patch:

  • Thirty new customers added to both Story Mode and Endless Mode.
  • Added Chainsaw (required for LOCKED AND LOADED achievement).
  • Added Security Cameras in Endless Mode.
  • Added Patience metre in Story Mode.
  • Added purchasable pet in Endless Mode.

Community catalogues were still identifying individual faces within days of the September 1 patch — the full roster grows with each player's field notes. The September 1 customer expansion builds on the August 21 foundation (which added Cara Hastings, Dave Buster, Elise Hart, Grace Harper, Judith Calhoun, Kelechi Okafor, and others).

This patch also added two Bear Traps and two planks for the first shift, giving Story Mode players more early Hunt setup options.

Use the five-question loop to work through the expanded roster — the larger customer pool means longer shifts and more opportunities for false negatives if you skip verification steps.

August 21, 2026 — 15 new customers

Bun Muen's Steam post 15 CUSTOMERS + BUG FIXES added fifteen new customers to both Story Mode and Endless Mode. TheGamer's August 20–21 catalogue pass had identified about ten of those faces by the next morning; the rest were still being logged in Discord and Steam discussions.

Newly circulating names (human, doppelganger, or both depending on tools unlocked) include faces such as Cara Hastings, Dave Buster, Elise Hart, Grace Harper, Judith Calhoun, Kelechi Okafor, Oswald Snoot, Ren Takahashi, Rimple Urkel, Toby Finch, Travis Dunn, Wade Callahan, and Youssef Morad. Do not treat that list as complete — the patch description is "15 new," and community IDs were still catching up within days of release.

Same patch also equalized product prices so the True Ending $250 is less of a shop-RNG lottery, added Steam Cloud saves, and per-player volume sliders. See the changelog.

Tools that actually decide a customer

  1. Laminated ID + N.E.T. computer — occupation, age, living/deceased flags, height, distinguishing marks. Database beats vibes.
  2. Five questions — name, job, family, "where were you just now," and one follow-up on whatever the screen already contradicts.
  3. Emotion detector / Emotiscope — stress vs calm, plus rare flags such as time-displacement headaches or "craving human flesh." Full workflow: emotion detector.
  4. Anomaly Lens — later unlock. Some visitors (Amelia Kramer, Aria Romero, Evan Walker, Kevin Larson, Vivien Marrow, Yasmin Carvalho) look human until the lens shows a missing body, a dancing fake, a face parasite, or vanishing gold jewelry.
  5. Notice board — Joe's Diner fire, obituaries, bridge closures, Europe travel bans, wanted posters. Brandon Keller's diner uniform is a classic newspaper tell.

Signature tells worth memorizing

VisitorWhat usually gives them away
Nathan CallowayComputer lists the real Nathan as deceased; some fakes levitate and talk about enlightenment.
Agnes WellsFile age is three; the person at the counter is an old woman.
Julietta GrangerReal job is plumber; the fake wears a flight-attendant uniform and talks routes.
Natasha LinClaims she has been working since morning — she bartends at a bar that only opens at night.
NorbertFloating gnome, fake ID, not in the database. Shooting him a few times clears the annoyance; he does not usually summon the Entity.
HerbertTalking bear. Community reports he cannot be killed and does not trigger the Hunt if he runs off.
Louisa MariHuman: slightly uneven legs, manager called ahead. Doppelganger: one leg stretched far past human.
Clyde DawsonHuman Clyde remembers you after Night 1. A doppelganger re-introduces himself as if you have never met. Night 9 often hosts a fake sheriff — confirm before you shoot.
Andal KhanName badge reads correctly, or reads "Adnal" and he does not notice.
Martha CollinsHuman names kids Leo and Ben. Fake says Lee and Ken.
TofuThe shop dog. Safe. Not a customer to execute.

Process beats trivia. If a tell is not on this table, fall back to ID vs computer vs lens. Night-by-night pacing: 13-shift walkthrough. Crew habits: advanced tips. Longer interrogation theory: doppelganger detection.

Named roster (high-value tells)

Community catalogues (TheGamer, August 20–21 pass; EncampedWeevil, September 3, 2026) disagree on exact counts because nights are procedural. This is a field notebook, not a spoiler lock. The September 1 patch added 30 faces on top of the August 15 — community databases are actively growing.

VisitorTell worth a question
Anita VarmaFake is missing a hand that spurts blood and claims she was born that way.
Barry AokiFake is tall vs short on file; "magic beans" growth story.
Baron DeanFake has hair vs bald photo; "human photosynthesis."
Brandon KellerJoe's Diner uniform after the notice-board fire article.
Cara HastingsFake preparing for a 30th birthday; file age is 23.
Corey BishopFake lanyard shows someone else's face.
Daniel FloresFake is blind in both eyes; file says left eye only.
Danielle BennettFile: cannot speak. If Emotiscope lets her answer, she is fake.
Dave BusterMentions airport checks "since September 11th" in a 1993 setting; time-displacement headaches.
David KennedyFake's sister obituary is on the notice board.
Elise HartGoing to the beach "on this sunny day" at midnight.
Emilia CarterStudying at a library the newspaper says closed last night.
Grace HarperWest Bridge "speed limits" vs notice board: bridge closed.
Harold BrantFake claims 40 years in pest control but is 39.
Isaac WarrenUpside-down crucifix, missing eyes.
Judith CalhounFake mentions a husband; file lists her as a widow.
Keith HargreavesTrain conductor on file; fake talks city bus routes.
Maya DavilaDate with husband who matches the missing-person clipping.
Ramona DelgadoEmotiscope: craving human flesh.
Rudnick WexContorts like a wheel; real Rudnick is deceased on file.
Tyler BrackettFake admits he is a doppelganger — letting that one live reportedly does not summon the Entity.
Youssef MoradHair does not match photo ID.

Drivers get their own flashlight loop on the forecourt section below. Hao Chen can buy beer with a fake ID and still be human.

VIP NPCs: Clyde, Bonnie, Louisa, Norbert

  • Sheriff Clyde Dawson — story hinge after Shift 12. Keep the real Clyde alive if you want True Ending or Empty Home; calling him pays the surgery and routes Grave Decision. Full routing: endings.
  • Bonnie McCree — early human regular. Ask about the reading glasses; community runs have not logged a reliable doppel version yet.
  • Louisa Mari — the manager's friend. Both human and fake versions exist; the elongated-leg tell is the loud one.
  • Vanessa McCree — treated as always human in current catalogues. Do not over-interrogate and waste prompts.
  • Victor Hale — can attack on sight; killing in self-defence is not a mistaken-execution penalty.
  • Raymond Kessler — wanted dead or alive on the notice board; a $20 bounty kill does not summon the Entity.

Forecourt drivers are customers too

Outdoor fuel visitors use the same human / fake split. Check the cabin with a flashlight, match names on passenger-seat IDs and passports against N.E.T., and read trunks (guitars, stolen cash, framed portraits that are not the driver).

  • The first car of a shift is often a safe blue station wagon — still glance, do not skip the habit.
  • Flesh-warped interiors, missing engines, deceased names on goodbye notes, and "I just came from a wedding" invites dated a decade ago are execute tells.
  • End-of-shift bus driver is a separate check: empty seat is usually safe; someone behind the wheel is a trap. Details on the monsters & Hunt page (Fake Bus / Fast Red Creature).

A common Night 1 lineup (not guaranteed)

Many first-shift reports open with Clyde (human), Bonnie (human), Nathan Calloway (fake), Julietta Granger (fake), and Kevin Larson (human until the Anomaly Lens exists). Night 2 often adds Natasha Lin, Emilia Carter, and Norbert. Use that as a tutorial memory aid, then distrust it on New Game+ — August 21's 15 and September 1's 30 additional faces can appear in Story and Endless alike.

Customer interrogation & first-night clips

よくある質問

Is there a complete official customer list? Reveal answer.

No. Bun Muen does not publish a canonical roster. Community catalogues disagree on counts because Story is procedural and the September 1 patch added 30 faces that were still being catalogued within days of release.

If someone was human last night, are they safe tonight? Reveal answer.

No. Clyde, Andal Khan, Drivers, and several named regulars flip. Re-run ID, computer, and lens checks every visit.

Should I shoot Norbert? Reveal answer.

He is a fake gnome, not a standard doppelganger. A few shots usually clear him without calling the Entity. True Ending money runs can ignore him and save ammo.

How many new customers were added in September 2026? Reveal answer.

The September 1, 2026 patch (Build 25057748) added 30 new customers — the single largest drop. This followed the August 21 patch which added 15 new customers. The total roster is now substantially larger than launch day.

Do the new customers appear in Endless Mode? Reveal answer.

Yes — both the August 21 (15 customers) and September 1 (30 customers) patches added content to both Story Mode and Endless Mode.
